Malakof Duathlon Marathon - UM July 26 2008

O boy o boy, I could not tell you how tiring this Malakof Duathlon was. It was held within Universiti Malaya Campus. The race commenced at 9:00 am with 3.5 km run, followed by 14 km bicycle and finished with another 3.5 km run. At this age, I must admit that this duathlon was a killer for me.

I invested quite a lot for this duathlon. Knowing from Azad how bad he was in his his PD triathlon the week before, we decided to change our offroad tires on our Proton bike to the road tires. Guess what, it costs us RM180 per pair. Then, for protection on 14 km bicycle ride, which I had never tried before, I bought a pair of padded tight pants which costs me RM130 (price after hard negotiation!). My pair of gelled gloves cost me RM70 and " ....that's the cheapest..", said the bicycle shop owner to me and Azad. Heck, we knew that the motorcycle shop next door sells a pair of leather gloves for motorcycle at RM20-25 a pair, but I wanted bicycle gloves!!

Finishing at last!! Only a few people left at the end point... apparently about three or four more participants finished after me...

The bicycle ride was a hell with long streched upward hill which I had to walk my bicycle three times to complete the lap! The cheerful scream and waves accompanied me at the exchange between bicycle ride and the start of the finishing 3.5 km run (not so much for winning, but for encouragement as at that moment, I figured I was perhaps among the last five participants trying to finish the race!)
